What is Happening in the Solar Industry?

Dec 12, 2011 – The solar industry is undergoing rapid change in the US, Europe and China and not all as projected. Several companies including Solyndra and Evergreen Solar have gone bankrupt. Two German firms, Solon and SolarWorld, have closed US manufacturing sites. Meanwhile, Steven Chu, head of the Department of Energy, has announced new loan guarantees to companies that hopefully will not go bankrupt. Several European countries have cut back on subsidies and tax incentives for solar installations and that is coupled with the financial problems Europe is experiencing is cutting drastically demand there for solar installations. The price of polysilicon has been decreasing, which is good if you use it for manufacture, but not if you are a producer of polysilicon. Photovolatic production grew yearly from 2007 through 2010, but 2011 production will be below 2009.

Green Technology Conference at Office Depot Headquaters – Boca Raton

The conference was hosted by Office Depot Headquaters in Boca Raton. My husband and I both attended the conference. Yalmaz Siddiqui, Sr. Director, Environmental Strategy, Office Depot gave the introduction on What is Greener Tech & Why It Matters for Small Biz.

The conference was very informative. We can all improve our energy conservation in our business and personal lives. It was also a great networking opportunity to learn about other businesses and how we can benefit each other. We look forward to attending other events in the future.
