The first U.S. offshore wind farm, five miles off the Massachusetts coast, was approved on Wednesday. There was opposition from local Indian tribes and the Kennedy family. The project will consist of 130 wind turbines that will produce 420 megawatts of electricity by 2012. Siemens AG of Germany will provide the turbines.
