Animal Waste as a Source of Green Energy
A typical cow generates 18 gallons of waste per day. Waste form daires and feedlots are often dumped into ponds that leak into ground water and generate vast amounts of greenhouse gases, but converting this resource into energy or fertilizer has met resistence in some some states. States have been hesistent to label the resource “renewable.”
Chickens also create a lot of wate. Green energy Solutions in North Carolina converts chicken waste to electric power. Fibrowatt is doing it in Pennsylvania and Minnesota.
