Climate Change Policy
Jun 6, 2009 – The EPA may regulate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. The House Energy & Commerce Committee has been having hearings while it considers a cap-and-trade bill to empower the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate greenhouse gases. It has heard from numerous witnesses. President Barack Obama supports a 100% auction of allowances, but he has not forcefully pushed for it. Others say that certain industries face tough foreign competition and should receive allowances. There is a draft bill being evaluated and discussed that was introduced by Henry A. Waxman [D-California] and Edward J. Markey [D-Massachusetts]. See the EPA and Congressional websites for further information.
