Where Is Toyota Driving the Prius?

May 5, 2009 – If you are a big proponent of the Prius hybrid and others like it,  please read “Time for a Trade-In” by Daniel Lyons in the May 11/May 18, 2009 Newsweek [When did magazines start giving an issue 2 dates?]  Lyons quotes Henrik Fisker, the founder and CEO of Fisker Automotive as saying, “The traditional hybrid is an in-between solution as make the transition to plug-in hybrids.”   Of course, keep in mind that Fisker is producing the Karma, an $87,500 sedan that uses a plug-in hybrid.  Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco, says, “The hybrid is yesterday’s technology.”  Tesla Motors, the maker of an all-electric auto, is a Bay area company.  Toyota’s spokesman, John Hanson, counters, “The fact that the Prius has been around for 10 years does not  mean it is old news or obsolete.  In fact, it keeps getting better and better.”  He also pointed out that the new Prius just launched gets 46 mph and next year’s will get 50 mph.  Go to the Newsweek article for more information and details.
