Line Forming for Today’s and Tomorrow’s FPL Solar Energy Job Fair in Indiantown, Florida

Before the the FPL job fair opens this morning for their new solar thermal energy plant, about 100 people are already in line. However, FPL says it’s not a first-come, first-served affair. Candidates with basic assembly skill, plumbers, carpenters and other tradesmen may be needed to help build the plant. About 1000 jobs will be created by the project.

To apply, attend the fair which run Today and Tomorrow, April 24 and 25, 2009 from from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at Timer Powers Park, 14100 S.W. Citrus Blvd in Indiantown, Florida which is located in Martin County.

The solar thermal plant will use 180,000 mirrors to collect sunlight in troughs, in turn making steam to power FPL’s existing gas-fired plant at the site. When complete, it will be the second-largest solar plant in the world. Only one plant in California is larger.
