Iron Instead of Platinum as Catalyst for Hydrogen-Fuel Cells

Apr 14, 2009 – Michel Lefèvre and colleagues at the Canadian National Institute for Scientific Research in Quebec have used inexpensive iron-based catalysts for fuel cells.  Usually, expensive platinum catalysts are used in fuel cells.  These fuel cells can be used in hydrogen-fueled electric cars.  New technologies continue to keep pushing the price of alternative fuel systems lower.  Research has to be continued on many different fronts.
