BP Chief Scientist Steven E. Koonin Nominated to Dept of Energy

Apr 13, 2009 – President Barack Obama nominated BP Chief Scientist Steven E. Koonin to head up the Department of Energy’s science operations.  He will be responsible for the Office of Science and 10 national laboratories.  Before joining BP in 2004, Koonin was a professor at California Institute of Technology for close to 30 years.  He is a proponent of biofuels.  Hopefully, he will now be in a position to push forcefully for what he has opined on previously, as well as other green energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, etc.

  3. Koonin is a scientific sociopath who willfully destroyed the careers of Pons and Fleischmann so thoroughly that he almost derailed the entire study of low-energy nuclear energy (cold fusion in common parlance) – almost but not quite. Putting him in charge of energy development would be something like making Hannibal Lecter the chief hepatologist at a research hospital.
