Confirmation Hearing of Ken Salazar for Secretary of Interior

Jan 16, 2009 – Senator Ken Salazar, Democrat of Colorado, who has been selected to be the next Secretary of the Interior Department by President-elect Barack Obama, testified in front of the Senate Committee on Energy and National Resources. He affirmed his commitment to ending the US dependence on foreign oil and he said that that goal could be achieved. He was vague about his stance on offshore drilling, stating that there are some areas where it would be appropriate and others where it would not be appropriate. Duh. In a related development the Senate approved a bill to protect 2 million acres as wilderness in 9 states. Mr. Salazar is expected to be confirmed easily.
