In Iowa’s second annual energy plan, it called for private-sector investment in renewable energy and job creation.  Roya Stanley, director of the Office of Energy Independence said that the recommendations in the 2008 plan will help Iowa stay as a national leader in renewable energy.  She believes that by investing in the renewable energy economy, it will help them overcome the economic challenges and be prepared for a brighter, stronger future.

The first annual energy report issued by The Office of Energy Independence was in the fall of 2007. Since then, they have received nearly $1 billion proposed dollars in the private-sector investment.

The 2008 energy plan highlights expanding energy education, energy efficiency, and making energy efficiency one of the highest priorities for utilities.  Renewable energy is emphasized which includes the promotion of wind energy and development of a biomass industry in Iowa.  The plan makes biofuels recommendations and supporting the development of biorefineries.

“Iowa’s natural resources, innovation, and work ethic provide a solid foundation for us to lead in this new energy economy,” said Governor Chet Culver.
