Karl K. Stevens, Dean, College of Engineering and Computer Science says that this facility will be unique in the State of Florida and will provide a comfortable, healthy environment with good support space for faculty, staff and students. FAU’s engineering green building initiative is to construct a living laboratory for sustainable development and will qualify them for the Platinum Level of certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system of the U.S. Green Building Counsel.
What is LEED? The LEED Green Building Rating System is the national benchmark for high performance green buildings. The “Ground Greening” ceremony for Building I was held on Friday, September 26, 2008. The site will be updated as the building plans progress, states Timothy J.Van Epps, College Liaison, New Building Construction and Interim Associate Director, Center for Innovation Leadership
The U.S. Green Building Counsel (USGBC) is a community of leaders to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated.
Schwab, Twitty & Hanser (STH) in West Palm Beach, Florida will provide the architectural design services. James A. Cummings, Inc., also located in West Palm Beach, will provide the construction management services.
