Green Energy Ads by Traditional Fuel Companies Continued: ExxonMobil
Dec 8, 2008 – The traditional energy companies are turning green with envy at all the press that alternative energy companies are getting. They have the money to buy the green energy kudos that they would like to have. ExxonMobil [NYSE: XOM] announced on December 8 their “Six Day-Series of integrated energy solution” ads. The overview appeared Monday and is titled, “the challenge: securing America’s energy future” It points out the obvious that our economy cannot run without affordable, reliable energy – not unless you have a sail boat. They say, “By 2030, experts predict that the world will require about 30 percent more energy than it does today.” Who are the unidentified experts? ExxonMobil employees? Surely, they have numerous economists and statisticians making projections, accurate and inaccurate. Talking TV heads? Some of these highly paid experts were recently projecting $200 oil before year end 2008. We haven’t seen them on CNBC lately. Nevertheless, we will see more total energy use worldwide than today even with considerable conservation measures being increasingly put in place. Population growth worldwide combined with the continued development of the Asian, African and South American economies makes for an obvious continuation of the world’s energy appetite even if we cannot put a precise number on it.
ExxonMobil points out that “Oil and natural gas—at more than 60 percent of U.S. energy needs today—will be essential. America will also need coal, nuclear energy, renewables and alternative fuels.” Clearly, they have been reading GreenEnergyForEarth.com. A good start for the world’s largest publicly traded oil and gas company. Check back here frequently for further information before you see it in an ExxonMobil ad.
