DuPont Expands Production of Tedlar® PV Backsheet

Nov 5, 2008 – Back in 2006, DuPont [NYSE: DD] announced a $50 million expansion of its production facility in Fayetteville, NC for Tedlar®.  Tedlar® film is used in backsheets of photovoltaic panels.  At the same time they announced that other expansions of manufacturing capability at other sites for Tedlar® would be another $50 million.  Now in 2008, DuPont is expanding its manufacturing again.  DuPont expects to reach $1 billion in revenue for its solar power related products within 5 years.  This has to be good news to manufacturers of solar panels.  Increased production leads to lower unit costs and less chance for product shortages.  Major solar panel manufactures have been making long-term agreements to secure supplies of silicon for their future solar panel manufacture.
