More Hydrocarbons Found Offshore to Power Us Until Green Energy

Oct 31, 2008 – StatoilHydro [NYSE: STO] has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in an exploration well in the Barents Sea, 160 km NNW Hammerfest [where is that?  See their website for a map] in North Norway.  Hydrocarbons were confirmed in sandstone of middle and late Triassic age.  The find is in the size of 2–14 billion standard cubic meters of recoverable gas.  The drilling was carried out by the Polar Pioneer drilling rig at a water depth of 356 metres.
