2 New Oil Finds Offshore Angola
Oct 16, 2008 – Some more oil has been discovered offshore Angola to keep everyone going until we have more green energy. Of course, it will be a while before production might begin.
Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol) and the operator BP Exploration (Angola) Limited announced this week. StatoilHydro of Norway has a 13.33% interest in this discovery in ultra-deep waters offshore Angola about 390 kilometers northwest of Angola’s capital Luanda. The well was drilled in 1696 meters of water to a total depth of 3,272 meters below sea level. The well test results confirm the capacity of the reservoir to flow in excess of 5,000 barrels/day under production conditions. Other partners are Esso (2%), Sonangol (20%), Marathon (10%), Total (5%) and StatoilHydro (13.33%).
Eni and Sonangol E.P. announced another oil discovery in the deep waters of offshore Angola. The discovery well Ngoma-1, located about 350 kilometers from Luanda, was drilled in 1,421 meters of water to a total vertical depth of 3,383 meters, encountering oil in high permeability Miocene sandstone. The well tested at higher than forecasted rates. This discovery, located close to the recent Sangos discovery, will be followed by other exploration wells on other nearby structures, creating significant potential to achieve synergies in the development of the western area of the block.
Eni has a 35% interest and Sonangol E.P. is the Concessionaire. The other contractors are Sonangol Pesquisa e Produçao SA (15%), SSI Fifteen Limited (20%), TEPA (Block15/06) Total (15%), Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA (5%), Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. (5%) and Statoil Angola Block 15/06 Award AS (5%).
