US Open Tennis Ads Continued: Lexus Not Green

Lexus didn’t go green with its commercials at the US Open Tennis Tournament or with its extra prize to 5-time in a row champion Roger Federer who defeated Andy Murray, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 today. In addition to US $1.5 million, Federer also received a high performance Lexus IS F that only gets 16 mpg city & 23 mpg highway. Not that Roger will need to worry about the cost to fill up the tank. But it was a surprise that Lexus spent the last 2 weeks promoting a high end, high performance vehicle when all their competitors are promoting energy efficiency and less pollution; especially as Lexus produces the GS Hybrid [starting at $55,800], the RX Hybrid crossover [starting at $42,800] and the top-of-the-line LS Hybrid [starting at $104,900].
