Hurricane Ike Heading to Gulf and Texas after Cuba
Hurricane Ike will in most probability not make direct landfall in Florida Monday or Tuesday, but its winds and rain will affect the Keys as it hits Cuba’s landmass and mountains, reducing it from category 3 to category 1. However, its predicted track will take it towards oil & gas producing and refining facilities in the northern Gulf, although somewhat more west of the track of Gustav. As Yogi Berra said, “It’s déjà vu all over again.” Alterations to the track in the Gulf are frequent [Hurricane Wilma in 2005 was heading west in the Gulf when it turned back east and hit Florida] so check back here frequently.
