Solar Stocks Give Back Some of Last Few Weeks’ Gains

A number of solar energy stocks, especially Chinese [CSUN, JASO, LDK, TSL, STP, YGE] that we follow were down as much as 8%, though most were down about 5-6%.  Most likely this is the result of profit taking after the sharp increases following the very positive earnings reports over the last several weeks as well as optimistic forecasts for the 3 & 4Qs of 2008 and going forward into 2009.  There are many countervailing forces at work: the fluctuating price of oil, US and international demand for oil being affected by their economies, the expiration of US government incentives December 31, 2008, etc.  However, over the next few years, we expect that the fundamentals will continue to be positive.  Everyone in the US including Gov. Schwarzenegger is concerned about mpg.  Didn’t he start the Hummer craze?  All the TV commercials for cars now tell us the mpg whereas only a year ago we only heard about how our new SUV could tow our boat to the marina.
