First Solar Expanding Ohio Manufacturing Facility
Aug 18, 2008 – First Solar, Inc . [FSLR ] of Tempe, AZ announced that it plans to expand its development and manufacturing operations at its Perrysburg, OH facility near Toledo [Wood County]. The 500,000 sq ft addition, expected to be complete in 2010, should add at least 134 jobs to the present 700 employees at that location. This will bring the manufacturing facility to the same 4 line configuration as First Solar’s 5 other plants in Germany & Malaysia. The annual production capacity will then be about 192 megawatts. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said, “The state of Ohio is proud to support industry leaders like First Solar who are using renewable energy to power the future. In making this significant investment and expansion in Toledo, First Solar is helping us to send a message to the world that Ohio is reinventing itself as the leader in the advanced energy industry.” It certainly is positive that not all alternative energy equipment will be manufactured ex-USA.
