Renewable Energy in Florida; 20% by 2020
Aug 9, 2008 – David Fischer, The Associated Press , in the Sun-Sentinel , “Renewable energy may soon be a must “. Renewable power makes up less than 3% of the power in the Sunshine State, Florida. Gov. Crist has proposed boosting the total to 20% by 2020. FPL, Florida’s largest electric utility, is suggesting the targets should be 5% by 2017, 10% by 2025 & 20% by 2030. Net metering exists in Florida on a small scale, but the new legislation expands eligible systems to large stores and office buildings. Agriculture could, after solar, could be Florida’s most significant source of renewable energy.
