July 29, 2008 – The Sun-Sentinel reported that South Plantation High won third prize in the Texas Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge.. It took 13 students 6 months to build the 3-wheel car that used 6 solar panels. Next year the school will enter a road race from Texas to Colorado with a new car.

The Huntington Beach, California Chabad Hebrew Day School installed 189 with a surface area of 8,000 square feet that were manufactured by Sharp USA and installed by HelioPower. It is expected that the electric bill for the school will be reduced by 15%.
